<metadataxml><content><line>&lt;pre&gt;201. V. 91. THOMAS" LYON [John*, John^ SamueP, Richard*] </line><line>was born in Fairfield, Conn., Oct. 9, 1749, and died in Avon, N. Y., </line><line>March 4, 1835. He settled at New Ashford, Berkshire Co. , Mass., </line><line>about 1770, and lived there until 1801, when he went to join his son- </line><line>in-law, Seth Lyon, in Lima, N. Y. In 1812 he moved to Avon, Living- </line><line>stone Co., N. Y., where he spent the remaining years of his li fe. The </line><line>following items are found in the New Ashford Record: July 12, 1776, </line><line>Thomas Lyon, et al. appointed to "take notis of all Breaches of the </line><line>peace Either of God or man, and make information to the Commety < /line><line>of Safety." March 22, 1779, Thomas Lyon was nominated assessor; </line><line>Sept. 24, 1781, chosen constable; March 24, 1783, chosen selectman, </line><line>assessor and highway surveyor; March 15, 1784, "Lieut. Lyon" chosen </line><li ne>on a "Gran jury". He was a soldier in the Revolution. He enlisted </line><line>in 1776 at New Ashford, and served at Ticonderoga; afterwards fought </line><line>at Bennington under General Stark, Aug. 16, 1777, and was at the </line><line /><lin e /><line /><line>FIFTH GENERATION 281 </line><line /><line>surrender of Burgoyne, Oct. 17, 1777. This he recites in an applica- </line><line>tion for a pension Aug. 11, 1832. The pension was granted but he </line><line>was then advanced in years a nd did not live long to benefit by it. </line><line>He married May 10, 1769, Thankful Russica (E. C. M. VI. 65) She </line><line>was born in 1752, and died at Lima, N. Y. in August, 1809. She was </line><line>of a Huguenot family of De Russica, whi ch came over from France </line><line>to escape religious persecutions. Thomas Lyon married a second </line><line>wife whose maiden name was Green. There were no children by this </line><line>marriage.
